The Parable of the Wise and the Foolish Builders tells us all we need to know about sturdy construction. Dungan Engineering is a believer: we like our clients to build upon the rock, too. To make sure the ground beneath a project’s feet never shifts, we employ a team of certified materials testing technicians who operate three testing laboratories — our 2,500 square-foot Materials Testing Facility in Columbia, and its companion sites in Brookhaven and Picayune.

Our technicians have the tools and know-how to perform sieve analyses, soil permeability tests and Atterberg limits on fine and coarse soils; moisture density relations; silt and clay determinations using the hydrometer method; and soil stabilization designs for soil-cement, lime treatment and roadway reclamation. And if the ground isn’t already rock-solid, we draw up designs for rock of our own — Dungan’s technicians also perform concrete compressive strength testing; unitweight testing; measure air content and slump; perform aggregate sieve analysis; and mix design. For highway transportation projects, technicians can perform nuclear density testing on asphalt, or employ the Gyratory testing method, asphalt specific gravity and AC content for quality control and quality assurance testing.

Just tell us where the project is, and we’ll bring the earth back to the lab. In addition to our modern testing facilities, Dungan operates a trailer-mounted drill rig for shallow samples.
