To the victors go the spoils. For the Pearl River Community College Wildcats baseball team, which captured its third state championship in the Mississippi Association of Community and Junior Colleges in 2018, the spoils are a new home grandstand, the conversion of their home field into a proper park, rather than just a stadium. And the upgrade was needed — PRCC’s existing wooden grandstands were outdated, cramped, inadequate for college-level broadcasting and scorekeeping, almost unsightly. Knowing Dungan Engineering had experience in designing ballparks, green spaces and other aesthetically-pleasing sites, college leaders asked the firm to draw out the concept for the Wildcats’ new home seats. Dungan’s plan saw the wooden seatbacks demolished, the hills behind the dugouts gently sloped and a concrete viewing area constructed with stadium seating for more than 200 fans, their heads shaded by the cantilever wing of the new 30×60-foot pressbox, which features ample room for scorekeepers and a pair of furnished hospitality suites. Fans are protected from foul balls by full-height safety netting. Two additional wings of shaded concrete bleachers with chairbacks will bring seating capacity up to more than 400 for the 2020 baseball season.
