Description:

Mississippi’s economy rolls on 18 wheels, and no one likes them to bounce on bad roads. The City of Brookhaven’s all-important Manufacturer’s Boulevard serves two of the region’s biggest employers — Walmart Distribution Center and McLane Co., both major hubs for the distribution of groceries and goods — and the 7,000-foot, four-lane route takes a beating from loaded trucks ‘round the clock. The boulevard had to be repaired and made stronger to keep the two distributors in business, so Dungan Engineering started at the bottom — 26,000 yards of cement were added to the road base, and almost 12,000 tons of asphalt were laid down thick on top. An old rail spur crossing had to be removed, and heavy-duty traffic striping and safety signage was installed to protect the drivers of the 80,000-pound rigs and workers coming in and out of the plants. And the whole project had to be done fast — there is no downtime for a distribution center, so Dungan’s engineers and inspectors worked closely with Dickerson & Bowen to keep the job on schedule.
