Description:
For years, Friendship Park has been the heartbeat of Columbia. It is a place where kids play ball, families gather, and the community comes together. As the park grew more popular, its aging playground no longer met the needs of the city’s youngest residents. The City of Columbia set out to create a space that was safer, more accessible, and more exciting for children of all abilities, and Dungan Engineering was ready to help.
Working closely with city leaders and playground design specialists, Dungan provided site design, grading, and drainage improvements to bring the new Friendship Park Playground to life. The design focused on accessibility and long-term sustainability, ensuring proper drainage and smooth, safe surfaces that will stand up to years of play. Construction required careful coordination to minimize disruption to the rest of the park, which remained a popular recreation spot throughout the project. The result is a bright and inclusive playground that welcomes children of every age and ability level, complete with modern equipment and thoughtful design that reflects the community’s spirit. What was once a simple play area is now a landmark of community pride. It is a place built not just for fun, but for friendship.
